As part of a wider restoration programme at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, our team carried out specialist restoration and refinishing works across several prominent brass and bronze architectural features throughout the hotel.

The scope included the brass entrance doors to Park Restaurant, internal brass-clad units, satin brass staircase balustrades and the patinated brass detailing surrounding the Nine Kings reception desk. Each element required careful restoration to remove tarnishing and wear while preserving the quality and character of the original finishes.

Craftsmanship and Materials

Working throughout occupied hotel spaces required a carefully planned approach that allowed the hotel to continue operating while restoration works progressed overnight.

The project involved several different brass finishes, each requiring an individual restoration process.

Within Park Restaurant, heavily tarnished brass entrance doors were restored to a warm satin brass finish, reinstating the elegant appearance originally intended by the designers.

Brass-clad architectural units throughout the restaurant were refinished to achieve a consistent satin finish before being sealed to a durable lacquered specification, helping protect the metal from daily wear in this busy hospitality environment.

The staircase balustrades also received specialist refinishing, carefully restoring a uniform satin brass appearance that complemented the surrounding timber, marble and lighting features.

At the Nine Kings reception desk, the worn patinated brass details were stripped, refinished and re-patinated to a rich dark bronze tone before receiving their final protective finish.

On-Site Challenges & Considerations

Luxury hotels demand restoration work that is both technically precise and operationally discreet.
As the project formed part of a larger refurbishment programme, multiple areas required different finishes while maintaining complete consistency across the hotel.
Careful masking, protection of surrounding stone, marble, timber and glass surfaces, together with phased overnight working, ensured minimal disruption to hotel operations while allowing every restored element to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding interior.
